Dr. Hajaniaina A. RATSIMBAZAFY is an expert in marine resource conservation and management, with a career marked by an unwavering commitment to environmental preservation. He holds a professorship in conservation genetics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and has also enriched his scientific knowledge in the Department of Systems Ecology and Resource Management at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Building on these experiences, he has taken on major responsibilities, such as Head of Fisheries Monitoring and Director of Conservation at Blue Ventures, demonstrating his passion for safeguarding marine ecosystems.
Currently, he is Coordinator and Team Leader for Madagascar National Parks technical assistance at AHT Group GmbH, where he tackles major conservation challenges, in particular the lack of financial resources for national parks and reserves, often supported by associations. He stresses that conservation initiatives must not only be driven by international or national NGOs, but must also be rooted in the very fabric of communities.
His commitment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NGO Natiora Defenders is rooted in this alarming reality. He pays particular attention to the dangers faced by local communities who apply traditional rules, known as "dina", to sustainably manage their resources. Without a protection system, these guardians of nature are vulnerable, a reality that gave birth to Natiora Defenders.
Dr. Hajaniaina A. RATSIMBAZAFY embodies this mission with determination, working to ensure that the efforts of local conservationists are better protected and valued, in the hope of a future where Madagascar's environment benefits from a solid and lasting political awareness.
