A non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the protection and preservation of nature in Madagascar and beyond. Our vision is of a world where nature is not only protected and preserved, but also valued, thanks to the collective efforts of the conservationists we support. We firmly believe in the importance of celebrating and supporting these leaders who work tirelessly to preserve our planet for future generations.
It all started with a handful of passionate environmentalists committed to raising public awareness about the importance of conservation in Madagascar. We quickly realized that making a real difference required more than simply launching conservation initiatives. We also needed to actively mobilize resources funding, equipment, and expertise and use them strategically to maximize their impact.
We also recognized the importance of building the capacity of local stakeholders by providing practical training and ongoing support to help them become leaders in the sustainable management of natural resources. And, above all, creating a strong network of support and collaboration proved essential. This network allows us to forge strong connections between communities, share innovative ideas, and join forces with other organizations passionate about conservation.
The word «Natiora» means «nature» in Malagasy, evoking the rich and diverse environment of our island, including its ecosystems, living species, and natural resources. «Defenders» means «protectors,» a term that embodies our mission to safeguard these natural treasures by placing them at the heart of our actions.
Madagascar possède une biodiversité exceptionnelle avec plus de 100 000 espèces endémiques, dont 90 % des lémuriens. Cette richesse est toutefois menacée par la déforestation. L’exploitation excessive des ressources et les effets du changement climatique. La perte de plus d’un quart de ses forêts tropicales entre 1990 et 2019 est vraiment critique, entraînant des dommages graves aux écosystèmes.
La déforestation, la surexploitation des ressources naturelles et la pauvreté généralisée exacerbent ces défis. Le manque de sensibilisation à la conservation est également un problème majeur. Bien que Madagascar abrite des leaders de la conservation remarquables, beaucoup restent méconnus, freinant ainsi l’émergence de nouveaux leaders.
Climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution pose serious threats to ecosystems and vulnerable communities. Environmental injustices necessitate an equitable approach to ensure a healthy environment for all. While numerous conservation leaders exist worldwide, coordination among them is insufficient due to linguistic and geographical barriers.
